As a member of society that has been raised in a” I ought to have it now” culture going of- grid requires a full paradigm shift in the way I need to think. Carving a house into a remote Pacific Northwest wilderness is a enormous undertaking. It would be simple to become discouraged If I stopped to think about the amount of work that demands to be completed. God offers me strength. Establishing a homestead cant be rushed and demands to be completed in incremental steps. Each time we total a project its one step closer to fulfilling our dream. This is the hardest operate and the greatest work I have ever carried out. I Thank God for each and every day I get to invest on the mountain and will be eternally grateful to Him for calling my family members and myself out of Babylon. Thank you Lord, Thank you…

When I buy a new genset, first thing I do is drain the factory oil and I normally find debris in it as I run it through a screen filter. Then I fill it with some new oil and run it for about 2 hours under a varying but moderate load to seat the rings. Then I dump that oil and fill with a full synthetic, and you are good for 250-500 hours of runtime. But one should be checking oil condition every 24 hours of runtime at least.
That is a great genset, my dad has one…but it does have a duty cycle and needs to have the oil checked and changed every so many hours of run time. With that aux. fuel system you need to resist the temptation to run it 24/7..
Hey, about the toughest homes you can build on a homestead (or just about anywhere) are American Ingenuity Domes or Monolithic Domes. They don’t even “blink” at an F5 tornado!
How far along have you come? I was in your shoes back in 1998-1999. I have been offgrid ever since. Using 800 watts pc..500 watts wind and a dc propane genset that’s about 1500 watts at 1800 rpm.
Do you have town water or a well?
Do you live near a town? Is social isolation a problem up there? If so have you found a solution to it? Thanks. I am contemplating moving out to a more rural area also but the possibility of being alone scares the you know what out of me.
I often day dream about living just like this. The only thing i would do different is run the generator on either home-made fuel or maybe this simple yet effective device.

thanks bro for the info.peace and god bless.
Check out the marine stores where smaller fishing boats are sold for good quality jerry-can style gas tanks with a built in pickup and sifon/pressure bulb for use as the external fuel tank. Some even come with an external hose that could be modified for the generator cap as described in this video.
Since you made yourself a custom fuel tank system, I wonder if you could make a video show casing the things you did that might be considered custom or jerry-rigged.
Great idea. A simpler solution that would probably cost about the same as all the fittings would be to use marine fuel tanks like would be used with outboard engines. Keep up the good work!
you could use wood gas its free there are videos on youtube that teach you how to make them and use them and can power multi fuel generator
