Someone is going to make millions with this idea
Ok, here is a freebie. You may have heard of the recent discovery by MIT’s Sheila Kennedy an expert in the study of integrating solar cell technology into architecture. She developed a technique of installing photovoltaic cells into flexible, textile like material. I believe they are calling them solar textiles. I was pondering the different uses for this new application and decided that using this solar material would work great in the manufacturing of tents.
Could you imagine, on a commercial level, being able to set up a fireworks stand and plug your cash register and lights directly into the posts of the tent. I know you are saying, “What about at night?”. In the evening you would want to use wind-power on the main poles and a backup generator if necessary. There are many tent applications that this technology would be good for. I’m sure the military could use this tent/solar textile system on their tents.
Of course we do not know if this type of technology would be priced reasonably enough to use, but it is nice to think about all the possibilities. I wouldn’t mind having a suit that could be used to charge my cell phone. I am not in the tent manufacturing business or I would be researching this further.
